"The Therapeutic Theology of Father John Romanides: A Contribution to Contemporary Orthodox Soteriology"
شهد معهد القدّيس يوحنّا الدمشقيّ اللاهوتيّ في جامعة البلمند، صباح يوم الإثنين الواقع فيه 6 تمّوز 2026، عند الساعة العاشرة والنصف صباحًا، جلسة علنيّة لمناقشة أطروحة لنيل شهادة "دكتوراه في اللاهوت" (Ph.D.) أعدّها الباحث السيّد عماد ربيز، تحت عنوان: "The Therapeutic Theology of Father John Romanides: A Contribution to Contemporary Orthodox Soteriology" (اللاهوت العلاجيّ عند الأب يوحنّا رومانيذس: مساهمة في الخلاصيّات الأرثوذكسيّة المعاصرة)، وذلك بإشراف قدس المتقدّم في الكهنة الأب البروفيسور بورفيريوس جرجي، أستاذ العقائد اللاهوتيّة في المعهد.
تألّفت لجنة المناقشة والتحكيم من قدس الأرشمندريت البروفيسور يعقوب خليل، عميد المعهد ومدير برنامج الدكتوراه، رئيسًا للجلسة، وعضويّة كلّ من:
قدس المتقدّم في الكهنة الأب البروفيسور بورفيريوس جرجي (الأستاذ المشرف، جامعة البلمند).
الأستاذ الدكتور خريستوس أراباتزيس (Christos Arampatzis)، أستاذ الآبائيّات في كلّيّة اللاهوت بجامعة أرسطو في تسالونيكي – اليونان.
الأستاذة الدكتورة مارينا كولوفوبولو (Marina Kolovopoulou)، أستاذة تاريخ العقائد في كلّيّة اللاهوت بجامعة أثينا الوطنيّة والكابودستريّة – اليونان.
قدس المتقدّم في الكهنة الأب الدكتور بسّام ناصيف، أستاذ مشارك في اللاهوت الرعائيّ في معهد القدّيس يوحنّا الدمشقيّ اللاهوتيّ – جامعة البلمند.
حضر جلسة المناقشة عميد كلّيّة الآداب والعلوم في جامعة البلمند الدكتور حنّا النكت، إلى جانب لفيف من الآباء الكهنة وأعضاء الهيئة التعليميّة والباحثين وطلّاب المعهد وحشد من المهتمّين والأصدقاء.
أهمّيّة البحث ومجريات المناقشة: قدّم المرشّح خلال الجلسة عرضًا علميّاً لأبرز محاور أطروحته التي تقارب اللاهوت الأرثوذكسيّ بوصفه علمًا علاجيّاً للنفس والروح الإنسانيّة، مستندًا إلى التراث النسكّي والآبائيّ ومقاربتِهِ بمناهج التحليل النفسيّ الحديث والعلاج المعرفيّ السلوكيّ (CBT). وقد تخلّل الجلسةَ نقاشٌ أكاديميّ معمّق وتقييمٌ دقيق من قِبل أعضاء اللجنة.
النتيجة: وفي ختام الجلسة والمداولات القانونيّة المغلقة قرّرت اللجنة قبول الأطروحة ومنح المرشّح عماد ربيز شهادة الدكتوراه في اللاهوت بدرجة "تفوّق".
Saint John of Damascus Institute of Theology Hosts Doctoral Dissertation Defense in Theology by Researcher Imad Rubeiz
On the morning of Monday, July 6, 2026, at 10:30 AM, the Saint John of Damascus Institute of Theology at the University of Balamand hosted a public session for the defense of a doctoral dissertation in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Theology. The dissertation was prepared by researcher Mr. Imad Rubeiz under the title:
"The Therapeutic Theology of Father John Romanides: A Contribution to Contemporary Orthodox Soteriology,"
under the supervision of the Very Reverend Protopresbyter Professor Porphyrios Georgi, Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the Institute.
The Doctoral Examining and Review Committee was presided over by the Right Reverend Archimandrite Professor Jack Khalil, Dean of the Institute and Director of the Doctoral Program, and composed of the following distinguished members:
Very Rev. Protopresbyter Professor Porphyrios Georgi (Thesis Supervisor, University of Balamand).
Professor Christos Arampatzis, Professor of Patrology at the Faculty of Theology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki – Greece.
Professor Marina Kolovopoulou, Professor of History of Dogmas at the Faculty of Theology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens – Greece.
Very Rev. Protopresbyter Dr. Bassam Nassif, Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology at the Saint John of Damascus Institute of Theology – University of Balamand.
The defense session was attended by Dr. Hanna El-Nakat, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the University of Balamand, alongside a congregation of reverend fathers, faculty members, researchers, students of the Institute, and a gathering of interested attendees and friends.
Research Significance and Defense Proceedings:
During the session, the candidate presented a scholarly exposition of the central themes of his dissertation, which examines Orthodox theology as a therapeutic science for the human soul and spirit. The research draws upon the ascetical and patristic tradition, comparing its frameworks with modern psychoanalytic methodologies and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The session featured a profound academic debate and meticulous evaluation by the members of the examining committee.
Result:
At the conclusion of the session and following closed statutory deliberations, the committee decided to accept the dissertation and award candidate Imad Rubeiz the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Theology with the grade of "Distinction".
