A Banquet in Honor of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece
أقام غبطة البطريرك يوحنّا العاشر مأدبة غداء في معهد القديس يوحنا الدمشقي اللاهوتي على شرف معالي نائب رئيس وزير خارجيّة الدولة اليونانيّة السيد كيرياكوس جيروندوبولوس والسفيرة اليونانيّة في لبنان السيدة كاترينا بورة، بحضور السادة المطارنة دمسكينوس منصور ملاك أبرشيّة البرازيل، وإغناطيوس الحوشي ملاك أبرشية فرنسة وأوروبا الغربية والجنوبية، وكلّ من السادة الأسقف غطاّس هزيم رئيس دير البلمند والأسقف قسطنطين كيّال رئيس دير النبي إيليا البطريركي والأسقف نقولا البعلبكي، وأساتذة المعهد والعاملين فيه وجميع الطلاب.
افتتح الحفل بالصلاة وبركة غبطته. ثمّ تخلّل الحفل كلمة ترحيب بالضيوف ألقاها قدس الشماس بورفيريوس جرجي عميد المعهد تبعتها كلمة لنائب الوزير أشاد فيها بمعهد البلمند اللاهوتي الأنطاكيّ وببطريركيّة أنطاكية وسائر المشرق "الذائعة الصيت والعريقة والمجيدة والمزدانة بتقليد عظيم وبحضارة عريقة" بحسب تعبيره. واستشهد في كلامه بكبار القدّيسين الأنطاكيّين أمثال يوحنا الدمشقي، ورومانوس المرنّم، ويوحنا الذهبي الفم الذين لمعوا بقداستهم ولاهوتهم وزيّنوا الكنيسة بأسرها. كما تحدّث عن مسيحيّي الشرق الثابتين في إيمانهم وأرضهم وتأثيرهم الثقافي والحضاري على الشرق برمّته رغم ظروفهم الصعبة والقاسية. وفي النهاية اختتم الحفل بدعاء من أجل غبطته، أدّته جوقة البلمند التي كان لها أكثر من إطلالة في هذه المناسبة.
On Wednesday 23rd of October 2013, His Beatitude John X, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, welcomed the Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Gerontopoulos, and the Greek Ambassador in Lebanon Mrs. Catherina Boura at the Saint John Of Damascus Institute of Theology. For the occasion a banquet was held in their honor with the presence of his Eminence Metropolitan Damaskinos Mansour of Brazil; his Eminence Metropolitan Ignatius Alhoushi of France and Western and Southern Europe; his Grace Bishop Ghattas Hazim Abbot of the Patriarchal Monastery of Balamand; his Grace bishop Nicholas Baalbaki…; and his grace bishop Constantine Kayal Abbot of the Patriarchal Monastery of Saint Elias.
His Beatitude blessed the ceremony with a prayer. Then the Dean Deacon Porphyrios Georgi welcomed and introduced the guests. His Excellency, Mr. Gerontopoulos, spoke highly of the Institute and described the Antiochian Orthodox Patriarchate as “the celebrated, the glorious, the honored and the one adorned with noble tradition and culture.” He also quoted his speech with sayings of prominent Antiochian Saints, such as; Saint John of Damascus, Saint Romanos the Melodist and Saint John Chrysostom, who shone like beacons and illumined the entire Church. He spoke about the Christians of the East who are devoted to their faith and land, whose cultural influence embraces the entire East although their situation is difficult and harsh. At the end, the choir chanted for the guests and the ceremony was ended by a Polychronion for his Beatitude.
