The SBL (Society of Biblical Literature) International Meeting took place this year at the Gregoriana University in Rome as a celebration for the Centenary of the Pontifical Biblical Institute.

 
Dr Daniel Ayuch, Associate Professor of New Testament at the Institute, presented a research paper on The Prayer of Manasses within the unit for Bible in Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Traditions. The paper presents a new approach to the process of interpreting the Prayer of Manasses based on modern exegetical theories, especially the linguistic synchronic methods and the canonical reading of the Old Testament. The presentation was very well received and discussed and it will be published in a book containing the proceedings of this research unit.

Among the distinguished participants were Prof Jean Louis Ska, Prof. Klaus Berger and Prof. Horst Seebass. There were several papers related to patristic commentaries on NT writings (John and 1 Chr, for instance) and the other Orthodox Panelists in the event were: Fr. Vahan Hovhanessian (Fordham University, NY), Dn Michel Azar (Fordham University, NY), Athanasios Despotis (University of Bonn), Despina Iosif (Open University of Athens) and Merrja Merras (Univesity of Joensuu, Finland).

This event takes place every year and gathers more than 700 speakers from all over the world. Exhibitions, presentations, conferences, panel discussions and offsite activities offer the specialist the appropriate atmosphere to enhance research opportunities.
