During the third and the fifth centuries, important schools were founded by great Church fathers and teachers within the realm of the Antiochian Patriarchate. However, recent studies have confined this educational heritage to the city of Antioch and its neighbourhood, without giving much importance to the other schools which appeared in other regions of the Antiochian Patriarchate. Moreover, these studies have only dealt with the Greek literature of this school, without showing the importance of the Syriac exegetical heritage. Also, these studies focused on the role of teachers whose writings were anathematized by the fifth Ecumenical Council, showing less concern with pioneering figures in these schools, such as Ss.
