In St Nicholas' Liturgy, His Eminence Metropolitan Elias of Beirut ordained Dr Fadi Georgi to the Holy Diaconate at the St Nicolas Church in Beirut. Dr Fadi took the name of St Porphyrios. The Balamand family (students, staff & faculty) headed by the Dean, His Grace Bishop Ghattas Hazim participated in this blessed event.

Deacon Porphyrios is the Professor of Dogmatics in the St John of Damascus Institute of Theology and holds a PhD in Dogmatic Theology from the University of Thessaloniki. He also holds a Masters in Arabic Literature and a Dipolma in Education from the American University of Beirut.

In his homily, His Eminence Metropolitan Elias spoke about the meaning of the word Deacon or diakonos, calling the new Deacon to serve God through serving the Church believers and the seminarians of Balamand. His Eminence also spoke to Mrs. Rima Georgi, Deacon Prophyrios' wife, emphasizing the role that she has in confirming and strengthening the ministry of the new deacon. Mrs Georgi teaches at Balamand the Arabic Language.

"من عَمِلَ وعلَّمَ يُدعى مباركًا في ملكوت السماوات"، هكذا في تذكار عيد القديس نيقولاوس نهار الاثنين الواقع في السادس من كانون الاول 2010، وضع ميتروبوليت بيروت إلياس (عودة) يده على الابن الروحي وأستاذ اللاهوت العقائدي في معهد القديس يوحنا الدمشقي اللاهوتي في البلمند، د.فادي جرجي، رافعًا إيّاه إلى رتبة الشموسيّة ومسمّيًا ايّاه بورفيريوس، بحضور أسرة معهد القديس يوحنا الدمشقي وعلى رأسها الأسقف غطاس (هزيم) رئيس الدير وعميد معهد اللاهوت.

والشماس بورفيريوس هو خريج الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت حيث أتم شهادة الديبلوم في التربية والماجيستير في الآداب لينتقل من ثم إلى معهد القديس يوحنا الدمشقي، حيث تلقّى إجازته اللاهوتية وتابع دراسات الدكتوراه في قسم اللاهوت العقائدي في جامعة تسالونيكي-اليونان.

إستهلّ سيادة المتروبوليت إلياس كلمته بتفسير معنى كلمة شماس موضحًا دوره الكنسي وداعيًا الشماس الجديد إلى خدمة الله من خلال خدمة أبناء الكنيسة وطلاب المعهد. وأنهى سيادته الكلمة بالتوجه إلى السيدة ريما، زوجة الشماس وأستاذة اللغة العربية في معهد اللاهوت، حيث أثنى على دعمها لشريكها مركّزًا على أن خدمتها لا تقلُّ شأنًا عن خدمة الشمامسة.
